 The Institute has special expertise in multi-culture agriculture and highly qualified and experienced scientists in the disciplines of catchment management, water management, soil science, fertilization, agricultural economics, and rural sociology. Specific areas of emphasis include:

. In addition to provide a focus for collaborations in land and water research in Turkey, we establish national/international meetings, short course, and study tours in Black Sea Region.

Collaboration

  We work closely with the Ministry of Agriculture Provincal Directorates, universities, regional farmer associations and the related private sector companies in the region and countrywide.  This is a valuable resource base for developing new programs for the region and also for sharing information with related agencies.
  The Institute's research program comprise a range of multidisciplinary agricultural activities and services aimed at achieving a specific set of goals.    

   We interfaces with national, provincial and local government as well as various universities, technicians, agricultural unions and farmers' associations in Turkey to achieve its goals. The Institute also partners with other science councils.

 Short History of The Institute
      Samsun Soil and Water Resources Research Institute was set up as "Regional TOPRAKSU Research Station" in Samsun in 1970.The name of the station was changed as Regional Topraksu Research Institute in 1971.After the re-organization made in 1984, the institute was renamed as Rural Services Samsun Research Institute.By abrogation the General Directorates of Rural Services, Institute tied to Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in 2005 and renamed as Samsun Soil and Water Resources Research Institute. The working area of the institute are in Samsun, Sinop, Ordu, Giresun, Trabzon, Rize, Artvin ve Gümüşhane provinces. The Institute has two Research Station in Bafra and Çarşamba .
  Basic Tasks of The Institute

 Basic Tasks of The Institute  which researches regional level  is ;
In order to be develope agricultural irrigation,  inclined towards to provide water resources,  as it manages catchment basin's water resources, providing continuity on  increase in quality and quantity at agricultural yields.
To optimize the status of agricultural area's plant nourishment materials.
To assist in order to  materialize  agriculture production potential.
As getting better the soil condition in it, assisting to sustainablity of soil.
As doing effective arrangements on management and processing of irrigation and drainage systems,  increasing quality and yield of crop which is irrigated.
Economic assisting to soil and water research projects via the analysis that will be done before  investments and later period.
    However, the results and advise of obtained from tests and researches that to be able to gain more quantity and profitable yield from per unit field, developing of agricultural methods, sharing with farmers on region and helping them on application via technical meetings, demonstrations, bulletins, various publishings, Harvest Days is one of the institute's basic tasks.
